A Little Film with Your Popcorn?

Posted on October 29, 2010

I don’t know about any of you, but I am getting super excited about some upcoming films these next two months.

Here are the ones I most look forward to:

127 Hours

This movie is based on the true story of Aron Ralston, a crazy outdoors independent who gets stranded in the Utah mountains when he falls and gets his hand pinned underneath an 800 pound bolder. Originally, James Franco was not Danny Boyle’s (Slumdog Millionaire director) first pick. But according to Franco, his soap experience, particularly his ability to memorize a lengthy script in a short period of time, prepared him for the audition. If the trailer doesn’t make you want to go see it, well, then you just might be as crazy as real-life Ralston.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

If there is a way to make a trailer great, then the makers of this trailer should win the prize. Now, I’m assuming since the scenes are from the movie, that the movie can’t be too bad. But the trailer is enough movie eye candy, that I have to go see it now. Plus, Daniel Radcliffe’s acting chops are nothing short of amazing, despite his youthful-movies-only rep. The movies have progressively gotten better (I’m guessing that’s what happened with the books.) The only disappointment I have is that this is only part one. Anything to make money, huh?

The Tourist

This is one of those movies that has me itching to go not because of the plot (although it is appealing), but because of the cast. And no, it’s not Angelina Jolie that interests me. It’s been a while since Johnny Depp has been back into action–in a non-theatrical type of movie. So put aside Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Corpse Bride, and the latest Pirates film. I’m happy to see him with the longer hair. And from the trailer, you can see he definitely hasn’t lost his humor.

Honorable Mentions include Fighter, the movie that’s trying to become the next Blind Side without actually mentioning it in its trailer/previews like Secretariat did; and How Do You Know, Reese Witherspoon’s latest edition of Christmas movies. Only this time, she’s paired with funny boys Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson. What’s not to like, right?
